Pirate Duo, Bruins’ Campos Earn Weekly Football Honors

HILLSBORO, Ore. — A pair of Whitworth football players were joined by a George Fox Bruin in the first week of Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors in 2017.

Whitworth quarterback Ian Kolste (Sr., Oak Harbor, Wash.) was recognized as the NWC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Pirates to a 56-13 victory at Central (Iowa). Kolste established a new career high with six touchdown passes. He directed the Pirates to touchdowns on seven consecutive possessions, leading Whitworth to a 49-0 lead only five minutes into the third quarter.

The Bruins’ Daniel Campos (So., Whittier, Calif.) led George Fox from the linebacker spot in a 30-28 road loss to No. 15 Wisconsin-Platteville to earn NWC Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors. Campos was the Bruins’ leader with 10 tackles and a forced fumble, the sophomore also recorded a tackle for a loss on Saturday.

The first NWC Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week nod went to Whitworth kicker/punter Rehn Reiley (Jr., Moses Lake, Wash.). In the Pirates’ opening day victory, Reiley prevented Central from gaining any momentum on kick off returns by booting six touchbacks on his seven kicks. He also made all seven of his extra points and averaged 33.4 yards per punt.
