Wildcats, Bruins listed in first NCAA Regional Rankings of season


INDIANAPOLIS — The first NCAA Division III Football Regional Rankings of the 2017 season were released on Wednesday, with Linfield and George Fox slotted inside the top 10 in the West Region.

Linfield finds itself at No. 2 in the west region, holding a 6-1 overall record with a 6-1 mark in-division. The Wildcats boast an in-division strength of schedule of 0.601, the forth best in-division strength of schedule in the west region, behind Wisconsin-Oshkosh (0.653), Wisconsin-Whitewater (0.653) and Wisconsin-Platteville (.632). The Wildcats' lone loss this season was against Mary Hardin-Baylor, the No. 1 team in the South Region.

The Bruins are ranked 10th with an in-division record of 6-2. George Fox is sitting on an in-division strength of schedule of 0.549. One spot ahead of the Bruins at No. 9 is Wisconsin-Platteville, who topped the Bruins 30-28 in the season opener for both teams.

Linfield looks to clinch a share of the Northwest Conference title this weekend when the Wildcats play host to Puget Sound at 1 p.m. George Fox will continue its season on Saturday against a visiting Pacific Lutheran, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
